Overview

Jacob Udell is Head of the Cardiovascular Division at Women's College Hospital, Director of the Peter Munk Clinical Trials and Translation Unit at Toronto General Hospital, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His research interests centre on ischemic heart disease and heart failure, cardiovascular outcomes, and pragmatic clinical trials. Among his notable roles, he serves as co-Principal Investigator of CHOICES, a CIHR-funded trial testing a provincial report card strategy for cholesterol management in primary care, and SOLVE-HF, a decentralized, international trial studying the efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitor therapy to prevent cardiovascular events in patients without heart failure, diabetes or kidney disease. Dr. Udell also leads implementation science and policy work, including as a researcher at ICES studying real-world drug utilization and cardiovascular outcomes; as a member of several clinical guideline committees; as an advisor to the Canadian Drug Agency reimbursement review committee for cardiovascular therapies. His research group has studied the cardioprotective effects of vaccination, SGLT2 inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors across various high-risk populations. Collaborators would find his large-scale clinical trials infrastructure particularly valuable for cardiovascular prevention studies.
